Reasons why guns should be legal in the US

The foundation of this country is that the people rule, which is why anyone that meets the fairly loose requirements can run for President, and if the government becomes tyrannical, it is the people’s job to take the tyrannical government out of power. It is unlikely the government will just give up its power, so the people would need to use force to impose a new government. Despite the government trying to make guns illegal, there are many ways that terrorists or criminals can get their hands on guns illegally, so in order to protect themselves thoroughly the citizens should have the right to bear arms. Guns should be legal in the US for cases with people who have permits or want to try out a shooting range. According to the second amendment, every US citizen has the right to bear arms and it would be a violation of his or her right to have a gun taken away from the household when they legally bought it. Overall, banning guns will simply do nothing, the homicide rate will still stay the same. Criminals will only find more available illegal methods to obtain guns in the first place, so guns should be legal.

Reasons why guns should be illegal in the US

Say there is a guy called Joe, he has a wife and two daughters, and is a law abiding, gun owning citizen in the US. There is another guy named Jeffrey, he is a criminal who has been in and out of prison for a long time, the government makes a law taking away the citizens guns, Joe, being a law abiding citizen hands over his gun, but Jeffrey, who didn’t have his legally in the first place, keeps his, now guys like Joe can’t defend themselves from guys like Jeffrey. A real life referent is when Tom Rittenhouse received an AR-15 for his birthday, he recognized that there were many protestors protesting in another state for the Black Lives Matter idea. He decided that it was his job to stop them and went there with his AR-15. He went to the police station with his gun and the police took him in, but before he went there, several people got in a fight with him since he wasn’t in a police uniform. He shot them out of instinct and kill quite a few people. The sad part about the story is he only had to pay bail and still isn’t getting tried in front of court. It is the governments role in society to protect the people, and by taking away guns from others the people can feel safer now, even though there are many illegal methods of obtaining guns. Overall, guns don’t always imply protection, they can also cause death unjustly so they should be illegal.
